The Board of Assessment Appeals exists under the Connecticut General Statutes and consists of three elected members. The Board of Assessment Appeals is the first level of appeal that taxpayers can use if they are aggrieved regarding the ad valorem assessments of their real and personal property.
The Board of Assessment Appeals meets once in September annually to hear appeals regarding motor vehicle assessments only. The Board also meets in March annually to hear appeals on business personal property, supplemental motor vehicles, and real estate assessments. Appellants must submit a written application to the Board of Assessment Appeals on or before February 20th in order to be heard. A written application is required by law. Applications are available in the Assessor’s Office each year by February 1st.
