Finance Department
Headed by the Finance Director, the Finance Department is staffed with 17 full time positions and is comprised of the following divisions - Accounting and Treasury, Collection of Revenue and Assessor. In addition the following falls under the responsibility of the Finance Department: Audit, General Insurance and Data Processing.
The Finance Department handles accounts payable, payroll, pension administration, benefit administration, purchasing and debt and cash management, including the investment of Town funds. As Chief Fiscal Officer for the Town, the Finance Director is responsible for the accounting of all Town funds as well as maintaining the financial records and preparing financial reports. In addition, the Finance Department maintains and monitors all revenues and expenditures for all Town departments that encompass the General, Special Revenue and Capital Project funds.
The Town’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) is prepared by this office on a yearly basis. For the ninth consecutive year, the Town has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. In addition, the Town has received the Distinguished Budget Award from the GFOA for four consecutive years.
The Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director serve as staff to the Town’s Retirement Board that is responsible for the investment and management of Town pension funds. The Retirement Board meets the first Wednesday of every other month beginning in February.
