hurricane safety for pets

The  Cheshire Fire Department and the Animal Emergency Hospital of Central Connecticut have provided safety tips for pets during hurricane and evactuations.  Here is a summary of the information included in the attached document:


  • Family go kit & Pet ER Card - details what people need to evacuate with their pet and info card for their pet
  • Pet shelter supply list - list of supplies each town should have on hand if a co-located pet shelter will be opened
  • Pet Friendly Hotels - hotels in region 2 that are pet friendly (contact hotel to ensure there is no policy change, fees may apply)
  • Community information for Animal Evacuations - information for the general public regarding preparing their pets for a storm
  • Community information for Towns - information intended for town officials on how to prepare and how to get the community prepared
  • Large Animal Medical Supply List - list of supplies for owners to have on hand in case medical issues arise during/after the storm
  • Planning for Equine Evacuations - how to prepare horses for the storm, some of the information is applicable to any large animal, although species differences exist


The following Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospitals in Region 2 expect to stay open for medical emergencies during and after the storm and have generators. (Note there may be some smaller general practices that also may have generators and plan on being open - contact them on individual basis to confirm.)
