New Automated Recycling Program

The delivery of the automated recycling containers for the Town of Cheshire's new automated recycling program will begin on Monday, November 12, 2012.  Containers should be delivered to all eligible households by Thanksgiving.

There will be no recycling collection the week of Thanksgiving, however, solid waste will be collected that week according to the weekly schedule (with a one day delay for Thursday and Friday collection due to the holiday).

The new automated recycling collection will begin Monday, November 26, 2012 for all "A" week residents, and Monday, December 3, 2012 for all "B" week residents.  The day of the week for collection will not change. 

The schedule for "A" and "B" weeks will be mailed to participating households within the next week along with a brochure including a listing of acceptable materials and details for this program.  The brochure is available here, and the street listing will be posted on this website soon.

Policy for Distribution

The policy for distribution of the 64 gallon and 96 gallon containers has been determined by the Town Council.  Those meeting the following criteria will receive 64 gallon containers:

• households with one or two bedrooms;
• households of one or two residents where at least one resident is over 65 years of age by December 31, 2012 or qualifies for disability tax benefits (this information will be compiled based on the data from the voter registration list; therefore, residents who are over 65 but are not registered voters will not be detected for receipt of the 64 gallon containers);
• most condos which currently have Town collection services.
• Please note that special rear yard arrangements for eligible senior and disabled residents will continue with the 64 gallon containers and new biweekly recycling collection schedule.

           The remaining households eligible for collection services will receive 96 gallon containers.
