FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – DECEMBER 30, 2011
Contact: Cheshire Fire Department 203-272-1828 Jack Casner, Chief of Department
The Cheshire Fire Department asks all Cheshire and area residents to make
four safety-related New Year’s resolutions.
The Cheshire Fire Department reminds all residents of some of the critically important fire safety precautions to adopt as part of your New Year’s resolutions. Simple safety measures can save lives or minimize serious injury and we urge you to make safety a prominent part of your lifestyle.
The recent tragedy in Stamford illustrates how disaster can strike swiftly and without warning. We encourage every resident to make these four safety-focused New Year’s resolutions; your life and the lives of your loved ones are worth it.
1) Resolve to have working smoke detectors in each sleeping area in your home;
2) Resolve to have a working carbon monoxide detector;
3) Resolve to have an emergency plan, meeting place and disaster kit;
4) Resolve to not drive distracted, especially by use of cell phones and texting.
The Cheshire Fire Department is here to help you keep these resolutions. If you have questions about a safety plan for your home, or how or where to install your smoke or carbon monoxide detector, please call the Fire Department at 203 2712-1828 for assistance. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are available through our Department at no cost for eligible Cheshire residents.
