Please note that a Parking Ban is in effect for Town roads during snowstorms. Vehicles that are not moved could be towed at the owner’s expense. Parking Ban announcements will be made through the local media.
Residents are responsible for removing basketball hoops and any other private property from Town roads and rights-of-way to keep roads clear for snow removal operations. Town ordinances also require property owners to clear all snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours of the end of the snowfall or precipitation. The Public Works Department suggests that residents wait until Town plows have pushed snow back to the curb line before clearing sidewalk areas. Priority is given to clearing access in the travel portions of the through roads, however, once the storm subsides, the roads will be cut back to the curb line. This allows room for additional snowfall from future snowstorms, allows access to mailboxes and newspaper receptacles, and opens up storm drains to allow melting snow to run off properly.
Residents are asked make certain their mailboxes are at least 42 inches above the roadway and set back slightly from the edge of the road behind either the face of the curb or edge of road. The Public Works Department does not replace mailboxes that are displaced by snow or slush thrown from plows. Mailboxes that have actually been hit by a plow will be replaced by the Town with a standard style mailbox.
The Town prohibits residents and private plowing contractors from pushing or placing snow into any public road. Residents or private contractors will be held responsible for any curb damage done as a result of plowing snow across roadways.
