| | MISSION STATEMENT: | | To conserve local natural resources and promote the responsible use of publicly owned open space areas. |
| | | DUTIES: | By local ordinance, the Environment Commission is empowered to perform the folloing duties:
> Oversee and seek to conserve the natural resouces of the town.
> Inventory, interpret and disseminate data concerning the vital natural resources of the town.
> Compile and index publicly and privately owned open spaces, including open marshlands, swamps and other wetlands, for the purpose of obtaining information on the proper use of such areas and may submit recommendations, plans and programs for the development and use of such areas to the appropriate agency, board, commission or department.

> Advertise, prepare and distribute books, maps, charts, plans and pamphlets as necessary for its purpose.
> Plan, develop, coordinate and participate in responsible conservation activites.
> Continually seek to educate and inform the community on environmental, conservation and preservation matters. |
