ALL TERRAIN VEHICLE SQUAD
The Cheshire Police Department has organized an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) squad. The squad consists of a Lieutenant, and three Patrol Officers. The primary purpose of the squad is to conduct enforcement in areas that are normally inaccessible to our normal patrol vehicles. Areas normally patrolled by the ATV include utility right-of-ways, town owned open spaces, as well as privately owned parcels where property owners have requested enforcement. Common problems addressed by the ATV squad members include such crimes as Trespassing (on foot or with motorized vehicles), vandalism, arson, illegal dumping, underage drinking and marijuana growing upon town owned properties. CHESHIRE POLICE ATVThe Cheshire Police Department owns and operates a 2003 Honda Rincon 650 cc. The Honda Rincon is equipped with a 12 volt ATV winch, rear rack storage box containing first aid supplies, emergency lighting equipment consisting of red/blue strobe lights and a push to talk radio system mounted upon the handle bar of the unit.ATV squad members maintain a high visibility in their distinct uniform consisting of a bright orange duty shirt containing high visibility lettering front and back, the Cheshire Police Department patch, and black cycling pants and black boots.
