| RECYCLING PROGRAM |
RECYCLING BINS |
Recycling bins are available to Cheshire residents through the Public Works Department. You may come into the office at Town Hall to pick up a recycling bin between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You may call the Public Works Office at 271-6650 for further information. Each residential unit is provided with one (1) recycling bin per household. Each additional recycling bin can be purchased at $8.00 per bin.
COLLECTION OF PLASTICS #1 THROUGH #7
The Town’s recycling contractor, A.J. Waste Systems, has been able to contract with a private company to process the recycling of all plastic containers labeled with the #1 through # 7 identification recycling triangle. Thus, these items can be placed in your blue bins for weekly curbside recycling collection. The collection of all plastics containers #1 through #7 will take effect immediately. As most residents are aware, plastic water bottles now have nickel deposits on these containers. However, these items can be placed in the blue bins for recycling if residents do not wish to return them for returns to vendors.
As has been the case, recycling and refuse can be collected as early as 5:30 a.m. so residents are encouraged to place their recycling bins and trash receptacles the evening prior to collection to avoid missing this service.
Residents are free to contact Cheshire Public Works (203) 271-6650 should they need any further assistance with this matter.

BATTERY AND CELL PHONE RECYCLING PROGRAM |
THE TOWN OF CHESHIRE ANSWERS THE CALL TO RECYCLE!
Joins National Rechargeable Battery and Cell Phone Recycling Program
With its eye on the environment, The Town of Cheshire has joined a national program called Call2Recycle™ to conveniently recycle their used rechargeable batteries and old cell phones. A recycle box has been placed in the Town Hall, 84 South Main Street, in the Public Works Department.
Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), Lithium Ion (Li-ion), Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn) and Small Sealed Lead* (Pb) rechargeable batteries are commonly found in many portable electronics such as cellular phones, laptop computers, two-way radios, bar code readers, and portable printers. Rechargeable batteries are also found in common household electronics such as cordless telephones, cordless power tools, digital cameras, and camcorders. When the battery no longer holds a charge, The Town of Cheshire can now recycle it.
The Town of Cheshire is working in cooperation with the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Cooperation (RBRC), a non-profit public service organization that operates the Call2Recycle program. By participating in the RBRC Program, The Town of Cheshire is helping to preserve our environment and to prevent rechargeable batteries and cell phones from entering the country’s landfills. A portion of the proceeds from cell phone recycling will go to select charities.
Ni-Cd and Pb batteries are prohibited from being thrown in the trash and must be sent for recycling through manufacturer/distributor or other collection programs. The Town of Cheshire has taken responsibility for the proper disposal of their used rechargeable batteries by their voluntary participation in the national RBRC program. The Town of Cheshire are helping to make rechargeable battery and cell phone recycling a reality, and that’s great for the environment.
