TOWN CLERK

The Town Clerk’s Office is responsible for recording, maintaining and preserving land records, maps, vital statistics and other municipal records, including meeting minutes of all official boards, commissions and committees, for access by the public.

 

Town Clerk's Office is open on a limited basis to the public in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Staff is in the office and business is still being conducted by mail, email, erecording and phone.

Land Records are available online; click here. All indexes and maps are online and document images are visible back to June 26, 1989. 

 

Land record recordings are accepted by mail and by eRecording. Transfer deeds only accepted electronically if no conveyance is due (signed OP-236 must be included).

 Documents to be recorded in person only if absolutely necessary (one person in the office at a time). For everyone's safety, we prefer mail.

Liquor Permits: per the Governor's Executive Order No. 7W

  • Renewal date for on-premise liquor permits has been extended. This modifies state statutes to provide that all on-premise liquor permits in active status when Executive Order No. 7D went into effect on 3/16/2020 shall be extended by four months, including any business whose permit expired between 3/16-4/9/2020.

-Absentee ballots and applications

-Burial and cremation permits

-Certified copies of Land Records and Maps

-Certified copies of vital records 

                     (Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates)


-Copies of recorded military discharge papers; or to submit an online request to the National Archives for a certified copy of a DD214 click here

-Liquor Permit ($20.00 fee to file with Town Clerk)

-Marriage licenses ($50.00 fee)

-Registration of Property Being Foreclosed $60.00

 (fee payable to "Cheshire Town Clerk")

Public Act 17-2 Sec. 157. (NEW) (Effective from passage) Any local board of education shall file forthwith a signed copy of any contract for administrative personnel with the town clerk, which town clerk shall post a copy of any such contract on the town's Internet web site. Any regional board of education shall file a copy of any such contract with the town clerk in each member town, which town clerk shall post a copy of any such contract on the town's Internet web site.        Effective October 2017
