The fee increases by one dollar ($1.00) for each month the license is overdue. Written proof that a dog has been spayed or neutered is required when the dog is licensed for the first time. Written proof is also required to show that the dog has a current rabies vaccination; this certificate must include an expiration date. Any owner licensing a dog for the first time or renewing a license for a dog whose rabies vaccination has expired must present this certificate.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Absentee ballot applications for the November elections are available for all electors who qualify. Absentee ballot applications may be obtained from the Town Clerk’s Office by calling 203-271-6601 or by sending a written request to: Cheshire Town Clerk’s Office, 84 South Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410. Applications are also available at the Secretary of the State’s website(see link below). Completed applications must be returned to the Town Clerk’s office.

In order to qualify for an absentee ballot, an elector must be unable to appear at the required polling place during all hours of voting for one of the following reasons: (1) active service in the armed forces of the United States; (2) absence from the town of voting residence during all of the hours of voting; (3) illness; (4) physical disability; (5) religious tenets which forbid secular activity on the day of the election; (6) duties as an election official at a polling place other than his/her own during all the hours of voting.

Ballots for the election will be available a month prior to the election, and can be picked up by the applicant in person, or can be mailed directly to the applicant. Although anyone may pick up an absentee ballot application for another elector, the ballot itself can only be given to the elector named on the application or mailed to the applicant. Ballots may be returned personally by the applicant or by mail. There are restrictions on who may personally return the ballot to the Town Clerk’s Office.

Call or visit the Town Clerk’s Office (271-6601, 84 South Main Street) for more information.
