ELECTIONS AND REGISTRARS OF VOTERS

The office is open all year Monday-Friday 9a.m. - 3p.m. There will be an extended session until 8p.m. on Tuesday the week before every election, which is the deadline for in-person registrations and for mail-in registrations to have arrived at the office. The only option for registering after that is Election Day Registration at the Town Hall, which we recommend only as a last resort because of the much longer time it takes to process your application. Election Day Registration is not available during primaries and referenda.

If you become a U.S. Citizen, move into town, or turn 18 the week before election day, the deadline for registering in person does not apply and you may register in person at our ioffice.

HOW TO REGISTER TO VOTE

    • Register in person at the Registrars of Voters’ office or the Town Clerk’s office at 84 South Main Street; at the Cheshire Public Library at 104 Main Street; or at the Department of Motor Vehicles. If you register at a location other than the Registrar of Voters' office, however, be sure to complete and keep your receipt as proof of your application (if you are unsure of your status, please call the office at 271-6680).
    • Register by mail by sending a completed registration card (which can also be obtained through the locations above) to the Registrars of Voters, 84 South Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410.
    • You may register online via the Secretary of the State website: https://voterregistration.ct.gov/OLVR/welcome.do
    • If you have any questions about your current voting eligibility status, polling place, party affiliation, or other matters relating to your rights, feel free to contact the Registrars of Voters office at any time: (203) 271-6680 or by mail at Elections Dept, Town Hall, 84 South Main Street, Cheshire CT 06410.

You must be a registered voter in Cheshire in order to vote in Cheshire, whether in person or by absentee ballot.  For the convenience of our residents, the Registrars of Voters hold special registration sessions throughout the year.  The date, time, and location of these sessions are posted on the main page for VOTING AND ELECTIONS.
