FREE ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT


TBD, 9 AM – 1 PM, DARCEY SCHOOL, 1686 WATERBURY RD.
Twice annually, the Town of Cheshire sponsors a free electronics recycling drop off event. 
ACCEPTED: computer/laptop/printer/keyboard/monitor; TV/VCR/DVD/remote; batteries; phones/fax machine; game console/controller; small appliances; lightbulbs 
NOT ACCEPTED: smoke detectors; car batteries; appliances containing freon (AC units, refrigerators, dehumidifiers) Note:  Some scrap metal collectors have free drop-off of appliances containing freon. Contact them for their policies.  

FREE MATTRESS RECYCLING EVENT


TBD, 9 AM - 1 PM, TOWN HALL, 84 SOUTH MAIN ST.
Twice annually, the Town of Cheshire sponsors a free mattress recycling drop off event. 
ACCEPTED: mattresses (crib/twin/full/queen/king); box springs
NOT ACCEPTED: mattresses from futons/sofa beds/water beds; mattresses infested with bed bugs; wet, damaged, excessively soiled mattresses; sleeping bags; mattress pads/toppers

Go to www.paintcare.org and follow the steps to find a local drop-off point in Connecticut.  

FREE DISPOSAL OF HAZARDOUS ITEMS


Hazwaste Central (90 Sargent Dr., New Haven) accepts residential hazardous materials such as aerosols, cleaning/lawn/pool/photography chemicals, car batteries, car fluids, paint thinner, fluorescent bulbs, 1# propane tanks, items containing mercury, dry cleaning solvent, and rat poison.

There is no fee for Cheshire residents to dispose of items at HazWaste, but proof of residency is required.   

DISPOSAL OF BULKY ITEMS


A private transfer station located in Cheshire is available to Town residents who wish to dispose of bulky items that are not accepted in the weekly trash collection.  THERE IS A FEE FOR MOST ITEMS. For hours, fees and more information on the local private transfer station, please call 203-272-4039.     

DISPOSAL OF DEAD WILDLIFE

DISPOSAL OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

Call Life Safety, 203-272-1882, to discuss drop off or collection options. 
Note: Fire Extinguishers are not accepted in regular trash collection or by local hardware stores, the Cheshire Fire Department, Hazwaste, or the local transfer station. ​
