Press Release: Cheshire's 2021 Grand List Information

Press Release: The Town of Cheshire's 2021 Grand List Information
Posted on 02/01/2022

Town Manager Sean Kimball announced that the Town of Cheshire’s net Grand List for October 1, 2021 has been filed at 2,965,614,025, representing an increase of 87,331,198 or 3.03% from the October 1, 2020 Grand List.  The Grand List is an assessment of all taxable and non-taxable real estate, personal property, motor vehicles, and exemptions.

The change in the net Grand List is reflected in the following components:  Real Estate increased by 16,821,500 or 0.69%, Personal Property increased by 6,453,218 or 3.76%, and Motor Vehicles increased by 64,056,480 or 24.14%.  The significant increase in motor vehicle valuations is consistent with trends seen in towns across the state due to the demand for new and used vehicles.

Property owners wishing to appeal their 2021 Grand List real estate, business personal property assessment or their 2020 supplemental motor vehicle assessment before the Board of Assessment Appeals must submit a written application to the Board on or before February 22, 2022.  These forms will be available on www.cheshirect.org and from the Assessor’s Office in the Town Hall at 84 South Main Street.  By state statute, an appeal can be heard ONLY if the request has been submitted on the prescribed form to the Cheshire Board of Assessment Appeals by February 22, 2022.

For more information on the assessment appeals process, contact the Assessor’s Office at 203-271-6620.
