Local tax deferral program extended

Extension of Local Property Tax Deferment Program

     The local property tax deferment program previously established by Executive Order and approved by the Cheshire Town Council for taxes due July 1, 2020 has been extended by Executive Order 9R.  Therefore, any Real Property, Supplemental Motor Vehicle AND Sewer Use bills that are due on January 1, 2021 may be paid up until April 1, 2021 and will not be considered delinquent and will not incur interest.  Aforementioned bills paid on April 2, 2021 or later shall be delinquent and interest shall be charged at the statutory rate of 1.5% per month or 6% retroactive to January 1, 2021.

     This deferral program is established to provide additional relief on interest and penalties for Cheshire taxpayers who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please Note:

• Real estate accounts in escrow and paid by a bank are not eligible for this program.
• No application is necessary for taxpayers including businesses, with the exception of landlords.
• Landlords must apply and qualify to be considered eligible via the Landlord Deferment Program Application.
