Sustainable CT Certification

Town of Cheshire Honored with Sustainable CT Bronze Certification
Posted on 12/22/2021

The Town of Cheshire was among thirteen Connecticut municipalities to be recognized in 2021 for achieving Sustainable CT bronze certification.  The Town met high standards in a broad range of sustainability accomplishments to qualify for the prestigious bronze-level certification.

Sustainable CT is a statewide initiative that inspires and supports communities in becoming more efficient, resilient, and inclusive. Cheshire’s Sustainable CT Team, composed of volunteers and representatives from the Cheshire Land Trust, Rails to Trails, the Coalition for a Sustainable Cheshire, the Economic Development Commission, and the Cheshire Academy Sustainability Coordinator with support from Town staff, has worked to support this initiative. The Town of Cheshire and the other certified communities for this year were awarded at the CCM Convention held on November 30, 2021.

Sustainable CT has seen strong momentum and growth as a valuable, high-impact program.  One-hundred twelve municipalities have registered for the program, representing 84 percent of the state’s population.  Collectively, sixty-four municipalities, more than 37 percent of the state’s communities, have earned Sustainable CT certification.  Certification lasts for 3 years, with submissions rigorously evaluated by independent experts and other Sustainable CT partners.

The Town of Cheshire looks forward to working towards silver certification, which is currently the highest level of certification currently offered.
