Applications for tax credits for Town of Cheshire homeowners who have turned 65 by December 31, 2022 and those who receive permanent total disability benefits under Social Security will be available in the Cheshire Assessor's Office from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm February 1, 2023 until May 15, 2023. Your 2022 income determines which credit program(s) you may qualify for; the current maximum income for the Town of Cheshire local credit program is $74,700 (single) and $80,000 (married).

2022 ANNUAL INCOME AND EXPENSE REPORT

 

The Assessor's Office is preparing for the next revaluation of all real property located in Cheshire. In order to assess your real property fairly and equitably, information regarding the property income and expenses is required. Section 12-63c of the Connecticut General Statutes requires all owners of rental real property to annually file this report. The information filed and furnished with this report will remain confidential in accordance with 12-63c(b), which provides that actual rental and operating expenses shall not be a public record and is not subject to the provisions of Section 1-210 (Freedom of Information).

Please complete, sign and return the 2022 ANNUAL INCOME AND EXPENSE REPORT to the Cheshire Assessor's Office on or before June 1, 2023
. In accordance with Section 12-63c(d), of the Connecticut General Statutes.

The Cheshire Assessor’s Office is responsible for:

  • Appraisal of all Cheshire real and personal property for the Grand List, which is a listing of total assessed values for all taxable real and personal property located within Cheshire as of  October 1st of each year.  Assessments are computed at 70% of the estimated market value of real property at the time of the last general revaluation and 70% of the annual appraisal for motor vehicles.

  • Tax exempt organizations please follow the appropriate link to the M3 application which is due on or before November 1st. (M3 and M3 with housing.)

  • General revaluation of real property every five years as required by the State of Connecticut. The next revaluation update is scheduled for 2023.

  • Annual revaluation of all commercial personal property (furniture, fixtures, equipment, and machinery).  The 2022 Declaration of Personal Property filing forms will be available here, and must be completed and returned to the Assessor's office by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday,  November 1, 2022.

  • Maintenance of records on the ownership of properties, current zoning classification, lot maps, gross and net valuation, and personal exemptions.  This office is an excellent place to start when you are doing research on ownership of property.

    The Board of Assessment Appeals is responsible for real property and motor vehicle assessment appeals.
