If you did not receive one, but own taxable business personal property within the Town of Cheshire, please download a copy of the 2024 Declaration of Personal Property and return it no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, November 1, 2024 to: Cheshire Assessor, 84 South Main Street, Cheshire CT 06410 This form cannot be submitted electronically. PURSUANT TO CONNECTICUT STATUTE 12-42, any business owning or leasing personal property within the Town of Cheshire must file their 2024 Declaration of Personal Property with the Assessor's Office no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, November 1, 2024. A twenty-five (25) percent penalty must be imposed on any business that does not file by November 1st or files without a signature by the business owner or authorized agent. The following should be reported: machinery and equipment, office furniture and fixtures, computers and computer equipment, vending machines, copiers, non-registered motor vehicles, horses, farm machinery and all other taxable personal property located within the Town of Cheshire. All farmers who derive at least $15,000 in gross sales from farming may make application to the Assessor for exemption of farm machinery, horses, or ponies which are exclusively used in farming. VETERANS EXEMPTIONS- Veterans who have not filed their original DD214 papers or a certified copy with the Town Clerk must do so before October 1st of this year (2024) if they wish to be eligible for the military exemption. The veteran’s exemption for specified periods of service with the armed forces provides a 1,500 reduction in the assessed value of property owned by a qualified veteran.
Disabled veterans should submit their service-connected disability rating from the Veterans Administration to the Assessor’s office by October 1, 2024. Based upon their degree of disability, these veterans are eligible for a reduction in the assessed value of their property.

The Cheshire Assessor’s Office is responsible for:
Appraisal of all Cheshire real and personal property for the Grand List, which is a listing of total assessed values for all taxable real and personal property located within Cheshire as of October 1st of each year. Assessments are computed at 70% of the estimated market value of real property at the time of the last general revaluation and 70% of the annual appraisal for motor vehicles.
Tax exempt organizations please follow the appropriate link to the M3 application which is due on or before November 1st. (M3 and M3 with housing.)
General revaluation of real property every five years as required by the State of Connecticut. The next revaluation update is scheduled for 2028.
Annual revaluation of all commercial personal property (furniture, fixtures, equipment, and machinery). The 2024 Declaration of Personal Property filing forms will be available here, and must be completed and returned to the Assessor's office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024.
