Juvenile Review Board

The Juvenile Review Board Program is a voluntary program of the Cheshire Youth Services Bureau under the jurisdiction of the Police Department. The Juvenile Review Board hears individual juvenile cases referred by the Cheshire Police Department as an alternative to the juvenile justice system for juveniles who have committed delinquent but non-felonious acts.

The goals of the Board are:

  • to provide juveniles and their parents with community-based, supportive and/or rehabilitative services, activities, resources and programs as a first or alternative course of action;

  • to present an alternative to the juvenile court system;

  • to promote accountability and responsible behavior;

  • to promote prevention efforts;

  • to strenghten the coordination of Town agencies working with juveniles and their families;

  • to identify juvenile problem areas and service gaps in our community.

Board members include volunteer local professionals representing Police, Social Workers, Education, Juvenile Courts, Clergy and community members. Hearings are confidential and conducted in executive session.
